We all know with a new year sometimes brings new rules and regulations. As we know, all initial and renewal speech applications are done through TDLR, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Here are some new and not so new rules that might be helpful

1. If renewing, you must complete 20 hours of continuing education every 2 years with 2 hours or ethics.
2. Since 2020, with renewal, you are required to take a human trafficking prevention training course.
3. For SLP-A’s, the renewal fee is 100.00.
4. This one was new to me: You will have to be fingerprinted: You do not have to be fingerprinted each time you renew your speech – language pathology license in Texas if the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation doesn’t notify you to do so.
5. You might need to submit new fingerprints if:
. You haven’t been fingerprinted since before June 1, 2015.
. The FBI has identified you as having low -quality fingerprints.
. Additionally, TDLR will send you an email 90 days before your license expires.
It is always good practice to renew early to avoid any issues that might occur. To get more information pertaining to TDLR rules and regulations, go to their website go to: http://www.tdlr.texas.gov.
Have a wonderful 2025 SPEECH YEAR!
