May is recognized as Better Hearing and Speech Month—a time when we celebrate the transformative power of communication and the professionals who help make it possible. But beyond the clinics and therapy rooms, there’s a sacred story unfolding every day in the lives of families caring for children with special healthcare needs.
At the heart of these stories are mothers and caregivers, the often unseen champions of communication. They are the ones sitting beside their children in speech therapy, practicing sounds and signs at home, and advocating tirelessly in IEP meetings and doctor’s offices. These moms are more than parents—they’re partners in healing, therapists in their own right, and warriors of faith.

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) play a critical role in unlocking a child’s voice. They guide families through the complex world of speech, language, swallowing, and communication disorders. They offer more than techniques—they offer hope. And when that hope is paired with a mother’s intuition and consistency, something beautiful happens: breakthroughs.

For many caregivers, this journey isn’t just about their child—it’s a divine assignment. Some feel a tug toward something deeper: a career change into speech-language pathology, special education, or therapeutic support roles. That’s not just a thought—it could be God’s call to purpose.
As Proverbs 31:26 says, “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” When you speak life into a child struggling to express themselves, you are doing kingdom work.
This month, as we honor Better Hearing and Speech Month, we celebrate:
The SLPs using science and heart to help children speak
The caregivers reinforcing therapy at home with compassion and creativity
The moms redefining motherhood as advocacy and ministry
The professionals-in-the-making who are ready to answer a new call
Are you a caregiver wanting to support your child’s communication journey—or a career-changer seeking your next step in purpose-driven work?
