March 1, 2023 Culinary Nutrition and Gut Swallow Health

Updated: Apr 14, 2023

One thing we can tend to overlook that plays a very big and important role in our bodies, is gut health. The key to better gut health begins with how you are eating and chewing.

Your selection of whole, healthy, and well-raised foods will determine your digestion and the nourishment of body cells.

Physical digestion begins in the mouth. All types of foods, including soft and liquid foods, should be very well chewed. When you are chewing, make the effort to consciously think about how you are chewing, the textures, and the flavors. This will really allow the rest of your digestive tract to be able to do its part.

There are some simple eating steps you can take in order to promote proper digestion and health.

Some of these include:

·      Eating slowly in a peaceful environment, without any electronic distractions such as your phones, laptops, and TV’s.

·      Practice gratitude while in the process of cooking, making, and eating your food.

·      Chew very well and slow.

·      Give yourself a good amount of time in between your meals and snacks in order to allow for proper digestion.

·      Give yourself time to relax and rest after a meal in order for digestion to be able to work its best

There are other simple ways you can improve your gut health by including certain things in your day to day basis.

A variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts will provide you with a healthy amount of fibers and nutrients to your diet.

Another helpful option is probiotics. Probiotics are live microbes similar to those found in the human gut. These are good bacteria that can work to improve your gut health. You can find probiotics in dietary supplements, or even in certain foods such as yogurt.
